According to BBC China, from a study of Greenpeace international, they found that rice and vegetables which have used banned pesticide ingredients were sold in Chinese supermarkets.

Multiple harmful pesticide residues were detected from rice, strawberries and leek from Supermarkets in China such as Tesco and Lotus. Greenpeace says, the pesticides included chemicals that are classed as highly hazardous by the World Health Organization (WHO), and could affect unborn children or male fertility.

For this reason, Greenpeace urging these three supermarkets to immediately adopt measures to control pesticides sought to ensure food safety for consumers. In contrast, representatives of Tesco has responsed, they have already received reports of relevant issue, however they are currently checking the facts,”.

In the past few years there have been frequent incidents of food safety problem in China. Fake eggs in China is one of the most major problem. Moreover, the most serious incident occurred recently was the milk powder contamination scandal in 2008 which has killed at least SIX infants and affected the health of more than 300,000 people.
